Identification
Small toad species growing to a length of 5 cm, less for males. Flattened head with eyes set wide apart, blunt snout. Coloration is light green on back and flanks, white on belly. This subspecies has clearly defined black spots on back.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in North America, from extreme south Oklahoma and north Texas to north-east Mexico and in Arizona. Lives in semi arid to arid bushy areas with soft ground, near water.

Status : The species has a fairly large range and occurs locally in sizeable numbers. It may be declining from drought and habitat loss but so far it remains safe.
