Identification
Very large species reaching up to 26 cm in length, females being bigger than males. Large triangular head with black lips. Smooth skin. Coloration highly variable, mostly brown with black vermiculations and spots on flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia, from Myanmar to Vietnam, south to Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra and nearby smaller islands. Lives in tropical rainforests, in streams with gravels and boulders, to 1200 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is declining at a high rate because of deforestation but also over-collection for human consumption (food) and animal trade.
