Identification
One of the largest members of its family, reaching up to nearly 20 cm in length. Pronounced horns above eyes. Large head. Coloration is generally beige with extensive dark blotches and a broad yellowish-green line from eyes to rump.

Range and habitat
The species is found in South America, endemic to southern Brazil from the states of Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul, inland to Minas Gerais. Found in the leaf litter of primary and secondary forests, rarely forest edges.

Status : The species has a large range and occurs in protected areas. It could be vulnerable soon to deforestation. Rarely collected for the pet trade.
