Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 50 cm with a 25 cm long tail. Dark brown head with erectile feathers on nape and short thick yellow bill. Brown breast, white belly, with dark streaks. Grey wings and tail with dark streaks on wings.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in western Africa from South Mauritania and Senegal to Central African Republic and DR Congo. Lives in open woodlands and wooded savannas, cultivated areas, up to 1300 m.

Status : The species appears to be locally common in its large range. It doesn’t seem to be under any threats at the moment.
