Identification
Adults can grow to 28 cm in length for a weight of 107 g, female is heavier than male. Male has deep blue head, back and breast, green wings, bluish bill. Female is grey. Both sexes have bright yellow belly and white-spotted black tail.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from Central Colombia to the Guianas, south to Central Brazil and north Colombia. Isolated population in south-east Brazil. Lives in the canopy of humid forests, forest edges, clearings, second growth, to 1350 m.

Status : The species is locally common (the commonest trogon in northern Andes) and has a large range. It isn’t currently threatened.
