Identification
The species can reach 30 cm in length for a weight of 122 grams. Female is grey with darker wings, black undertail, yellow and black bill, bright red belly. Male has yellow bill, iridescent green plumage with white collar and red belly.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south America, from Panama to western Colombia and from south Colombia to the Guianas, south to central Brazil and north half of Bolivia. Lives in humid forests, second growth and forest edges, to 2200 meters.

Status : The species is generally uncommon and local, only seldom common. It could be vulnerable to deforestation on the long term.
