Identification
Adults can reach a length of 11.5 cm for a weight of 5.7 grams. Grey and slightly curved bill. Black wings. Plumage entirely shiny electric green with dark blue cheek patches and turquoise to dark blue patch on belly.

Range and habitat
This species occurs from central Mexico to mountains of south America, from north Venezuela to Colombia, south to central Bolivia. Lives in scrublands, pastureland with scattered trees, from 1200 to 3000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is common within its large range and may have benefited from deforestation. Occurs in many protected areas.
