Identification
This species is found on west coasts of South America, from western Ecuador to South-western Peru. Lives in semi arid to arid open scrublands and thorn forests, to 2900 meters.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Andes, from north Venezuela and Colombia to south Peru and central Bolivia. Lives in scrubland, forest clearings, gardens and forest edges, up to 3000 m.

Status : The species remains fairly common, at least locally. Some subspecies are threatened by habitat loss and have very small ranges.
