Identification
Adults can grow to 38 cm long for a weight up to 198 g. Long tail, fairly small bill. Mostly green plumage with yellow tinge on belly. Undertail yellow and red, dull blue head. Subspecies with completely blue head and black lower mandible.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from east Bolivia to north Argentina. Species also occurs as disjunct populations in Colombia and Venezuela and central-coastal Brazil. Lives in arid thornbush, dry woodland, open savannas, to 600 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is widespread but considered as a pest in Argentina. Some subspecies like neoxena are highly threatened by collection for pet trade.
