Identification
Dark green wings and back with buff edging. Red undertail. White forehead, rest of head dark violet-blue, pink to flesh eye-ring. Breast dark green with strong violet-blue tinge, white chin patch.
Range and habitat
Central America, from northeast Mexico (Tamaulipas) to north Panama, mainly on Caribbean slope. Found in humid forests, woodlands, plantations and clearings, to 2300 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Common in the wild except in north Panama where naturally rare. Extinct in Nicaragua because of extensive habitat loss. Locally traded, relatively common under human care.
