Identification
Adults grow to 25 cm for a weight of 80 g. Clear horn-colored bill. Brownish throat, yellow-tinged breast and belly, rest of plumage bright green except for blue top of head and orange forehead. Subspecies with brown lower mandible.
Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to south-west Mexico, from Michoacan to Oaxaca. Species found in west and south-west Mexico, south to Honduras and Costa Rica. Lives in open woodlands, plantations, forest edges, savannas, to 1500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is locally very numerous, especially in Mexico but southern populations now endangered because of overtrapping for trade.
