Identification
Smallest macaw species, growing to 30 cm long for a weight of 169 g. Bright green plumage with dull blue forehead and bright red shoulder patch. White bare skin on face. Subspecies with fairly small all black bill.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Venezuela and the Guianas to north Brazil. Species occurs in South America, from Venezuela to south Brazil and north-east Bolivia. Lives in savannas, woodlands and marshy areas with palm stands, to 1400 m.

Status : The species is still common locally and seems not to be affected by deforestation or capture for the trade.
