Identification
Adults can reach 36 cm in length for a weight of 300 g. Back, wings, thighs and tail green. Breast and belly bright red with blue edges on each feathers. Comspicuous blue and red crest on back of head. Brown head with white forehead.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from East Colombia, east Ecuador and north Peru to Venezuela, Guianas and North Brazil. Species also found in central Brazil. Lives in undisturbed forests, coastal sand-ridge forest, gallery and savanna forests.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN

Status : The species is fairly common in most of its range although local declines attributed to deforestation and over-trapping could occur.
