Identification
Adults can reach a length of 34 cm for a weight of 312 grams. Most plumage is light green with a yellow tinge. Cheeks yellow, becoming green. Dark red forehead. Crown and neck with strong lilac tinge and feathers edged black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Pacific slope of Mexico, from Sonora and Chihuahua to Oaxaca. Feral population in Los Angeles (USA). Lives in woodlands, pine-oak forests up to 2200 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has declined dramatically in the past years with range reduction, deforestation and, most importantly, intense trapping for the trade.
