Identification
One of the largest amazons, reaching 43 cm in length for a weight of 766 g. Dull green with dark-edges on nape feathers. Variable amount of bright yellow on forehead. Belly has a grey tinge, red edge of wings, dark grey-pink bill.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from Panama to Colombia, east to Guianas and Brazil, south to Central Brazil and Bolivia, isolated in coastal east Brazil. Lives mostly in extensive tracts of forests in lowlands, including gallery forests.

Status : The species’ populations have locally declined dramatically because of deforestation. The species is affected on a small scale by the pet trade.
