Identification
Total length of 37 cm. Dark horn-colored bill. Plumage mostly green with clearer belly and nape. Bright red tail, yellow-edges on wing feathers. Forehead and lores bright red, crown purplish-pink, blue to violet-blue cheeks.
Range and habitat
Narrow coastal strip in South-East Brazil from Sao Paulo to Santa Catarina. Lives only in littoral forests, seasonally or permanently flooded.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This species is threatened with extinction as its habitat is damaged by human activites. Trapping of wild specimens for trade is also a problem. The species occurs in protected areas and is targeted by conservation programs.
