Identification
Adults can reach a length of 29 cm for a weight of 242 g. Yellow bill, bright green plumage. White spot on forehead. Lores, upper cheeks and eye contour bright red. Small blue area on crown, red underwing. Largest and darkest subspecies.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from western Mexico to south-west Guatemala. Species also occurs Atlantic slope of Mexico, south to Costa Rica. Lives in open woodlands and scrublands, wooded savannas, up to 1850 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species is common over its range and some populations are even increasing. Often trapped in Mexico for international trade.
