Identification
The species grows to 30 cm in length for 169 g. Bright orange-red bill, red eyes. Wings, back and tail green, belly violet blue. Yellow collar, breast yellow to orange, nearly red on center. Subspecies with darker and brighter blue head.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Australia and found from north Queensland to most of the coastal eastern parts of the country. Lives in wooded areas, from savannas and forests to plantations.

Status : The species is common in most of its range except in the north. It can adapt to living near human settlements and is locally treated as a pest.
