Identification
Bright red plumage, darker on back. Green wings, blue thighs. Black cap turning to deep violet-purple. Orange-yellow broken collar on upper breast. Bright orange bill with black cere.

Range and habitat
Species endemic to south Moluccas archipelago in Indonesia, being found on Seram and perhaps still on Ambon. Occurs in upper parts of hill forests, from 400 to 1050 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Restricted-range species in perpetual decline because of intense trapping (ongoing) on Seram, for local and international trade. Uncommon in aviculture, breeding program necessary.
