Identification
Total length of 31 cm. Bill bright red-orange with dark grey cere. Dark grey-black eye contour. Plumage mostly bright red with black wing tips, blue rump and parts of flight feathers. Subspecies smaller and much darker on breast and wings.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to the Moluccas archipelago in central-eastern Indonesia. Subspecies endemic to Buru Island. Lives in lowland forests, mangroves and coconut plantations, to 1800 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species is qualified as Restricted Range by Birdlife. It remains common but is declining because of capture for the trade and habitat loss.
