Identification
Total length of 31 cm. Coloration is brown with yellow streaks on nape, golden yellow forehead, cheeks, chin, bend of wing and thighs. Purple to violet tinge on rump. Black bill. This subspecies is brighter colored.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in North New Guinea from Astrolabe bay to Aitape area. The species also occurs in north-east New Guinea. Lives in primary lowland rainforest, tall secondary forests and sometimes forest edges, up to 200 meters.

Status : This species is qualified as Restricted Range by Birdlife. Its numbers are fluctuating, being very common in one place and rarer in the other.
