Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 35 cm for a weight of 463 g. Black bill with large red area on upper mandible, red eyes. Bright dark red plumage with dark blue back and tail, green wings. Black undertail, broad pink edges to feathers.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs on Boano, Ambon and Seram in South Moluccas. Species found in eastern Indonesia, from Moluccas to west Papuan islands. Lives in dense forests, sometimes edges of gardens and plantations, to 1500 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is still relatively common within its range and doesn’t face too high trapping pressure. Halmaheira subspecies is now endangered.
