Identification
The species can reach 16 cm in length for a weight of 66 g. Plumage mostly green with slight yellow tinge on sides of head, breast and belly. Flight feathers and tip of tail black. Males have bright red forehead and eye-ring.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in north-eastern Africa, in the highlands of Eritrea and Ethiopia. Lives in mixed forests, wooded savannas and wooded areas in cities, up to 3400 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is quite common within its limited range. It is considered a crop pest by locals and could be vulnerable to use of pesticides.
