Identification
Large cockatoo reaching 46 cm in length for a weight of 550 g. Powerful dark grey to black bill, grey feet, light bluish-white eyering. Huge fan-like crest made of very broad feathers. Plumage entirely white, yellow tinge under tail.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to central Indonesia and occurs in the north Moluccas, on Halmahera, Tidore, Kasiruta, Ternate, Mandioli and Bacan. Lives in primary forests, logged forests mostly in lowlands, up to 600 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has been declining dramatically because of habitat loss and loss of suitable nesting trees. Captured for trade at unsustainable levels.
