Identification
The species can grow to 34 cm in length for a weight of 350 g. Red eyering, yellowish bill, violet legs. Plumage mostly brown. Belly and breastlight brown to beige with broad and conspicuous grey-blue to brown edges on each feathers.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central and South America, from south Mexico throughout Central America to Columbia, south to Bolivia and south Brazil. Lives in humid forests, clearings, forest edges and woodlands, up to 1524 meters.

Status : The species remains fairly common in most of its range but has been declining in Central America because of deforestation.
