Identification
The species reaches 34 cm in length for a weight of 276 g. Plumage purplish chestnut with slight pink tinge on breast and darker wings. Bluish-grey bill with red cere. Yellow ring around black iris, bluish eye-ring with slight red margin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern South America, in the Andes of extreme south Ecuador and Peru, from valley of upper Rio Marañón to La Libertad. Lives in dry and riparian forests, from 800 m to 2400 meters above sea level.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a very small range and still suffers from hunting and loss of habitat. Surveys urgently needed to know more about true range.
