Identification
The species reaches 41 cm long for a weight of 182 g. Long graduated tail. Plumage mostly brown with iridescent green nape patch. Male has faint barring on breast, female with more barring on breast, belly and neck. Tail barred. Black bill.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok and Flores. Species occurs from south China and Nepal to western Indonesia. Lives in dense evergreen forests and secondary jungle, plantations, up to 3000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and seems quite adaptable. It can be locally common but is now scarce in Vietnam, Lombok and Flores.
