Identification
Adults can reach up to 35 cm in length. Fairly big and unmistakable species. Plumage brown on back, wings and tail becoming purplish-violet on nape and breast. Belly is bright yellow. Forehead yellow, blue crown. Subspecies with two purple nape spots (no band).
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Indonesia and only occurs on the central Indonesian island of Sulawesi. This subspecies is endemic to south Sulawesi. Lives in primary forests in mountains and lowlands, up to 2000 m.

Status : The species is very poorly known from the wild. It seems that it remains locally common, especially in protected areas, within its range.
