Identification
The species can reach 29 cm in length for a weight of 204 g. Head, nape and flanks iridescent green, wings brown and grey, rufous belly, broad dark red patch on throat, white neck. Subspecies without grey area on upper sides of flanks.

Range and habitat
This subspecies only occurs on Mindanao and Dinagat islands. Species endemic to Philippines, also found on Samar, Leyte, Bohol and Basilan. Lives in primary and secondary humid forests, to 600 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has experienced dramatic declines because of the near total loss of lowland forests within its range. Conservation programs necessary.
