Identification
Adults grow to 35 cm in length for a weight of 320 g. Red bill with clear tip, clear eyes. Female is grey with brown belly, brown and dull dark green wings. Male ashy-grey with grey-edged black wing coverts and white collar on breast.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found on Luzon, Mindoro and Sibuyan. Species endemic to Philippines, occurring on Luzon, Negros, Sibuyan, Siquijor and Mindanao. Lives in primary closed-canopy lowland forests, up to 2400 m.

Status : The species is still locally numerous but declining fast because of habitat loss and hunting. Subspecies nigrorum could be extinct.
