Identification
Adults can reach a length of 23 cm for a weight of 80 g. Male is entirely bluish-grey, lighter on breast, with black flight feathers and rows of spots on wings. Female is brown with light belly and dark brown rows of spots on wings.
Range and habitat
This species occurs from east Mexico to most of central America, south to Bolivia, Paraguay, south Brazil and extreme north Argentina. Lives in humid forests, woodlands, forest edges, mangroves, up to 2100 m.

Status : The species is globally common except in Trinidad and French Guyana where it is considered rare. Not known to face any threats now.
