Identification
Species growing to 27 cm in length for a weight of 171 g. Wings and back with bright metallic green coloration, bright red bill. Rest of plumage vinaceous to purplish with conspicuous bluish-white cap, white bend of wings. Female duller.
Range and habitat
This species occurs from India and Sri Lanka to south China, south to Indonesia. Subspecies found in Mainland South East Asia, Indonesia and Philippines. Lives in forests, woodlands, mangroves, plantations and gardens, to 2200 m.
