Identification
Very long bill. Plumage shiny purplish-black. White throat, red belly, yellow rump. Dark red bill, edged black, with yellow culmen and tip, yellow and blue base, blue eye-ring.

Range and habitat
South America, from Venezuela to the Guianas and northeast Brazil, south of Amazon and east of Rio Negro. Found in lowland tropical forests, often near water, up to 1440 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is common within its range. Vulnerable to deforestation, especially clearing of large trees used for breeding. Caught in fairly large numbers (both for hunting and trading).
