Identification
Species reaching 45 cm in length for a weight of 200 g. Double black and red band on breast, green wings, tail and back. Red eyering, brown head, black cap. Brown lower mandible, rest of bill yellow.

Range and habitat
This species occurs south of Amazon, from west Brazil and east Peru to Central Bolivia. Lives in humid forests, gallery forests, woodlands, up to cloudforests, to 1400 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN (as P. azara)
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is still relatively common in most of its range. So far, we don’t know enough about the species to protect it if it becomes threatened.
