Identification
Species unmistakable, reaching 45 cm in length for a weight of 200 g. Double black and red band on breast, green wings, tail and back. Red eyering, brown head, black cap. This subspecies has yellowish bill and dark patch on lower mandible.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from south Colombia and Venezuela to east Ecuador and Peru. Species also found in western Brazil. Lives in humid forests, gallery forests, woodlands, up to cloudforests, to 1400 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is still relatively common in most of its range. So far, we don’t know enough about the species to protect it if it becomes threatened.
