Identification
The species grows to 23 cm in length for a weight of 103 g. Mostly green plumage, short tail. Face and throat bright sky-blue, long black and horn-colored bill. Subspecies with red and blue crown and no purple wing spots.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found from south-east Myanmar to north Vietnam and south China. Species also occurs from north-east Pakistan and Himalayas to Myanmar. Lives in primary, secondary forests, plantations, orchards and gardens, to 2000 m.

Status : The species is globally common and seems to locally expand its range, because of its adaptability. Often seen in cities when fruiting trees are present.
