Identification
Large and broad yellow bill with two teeth-like protrusions. Broad yellow eye-ring, very long bristle-like feathers around bill. Black plumage with bright red breast and belly, clearer flanks.
Range and habitat
West Africa, from Senegal to north half of Cameroon and northwest Central African Republic. Occurs around trees in dry areas, thickets, open wood, farmland and secondary growth.

Status : The species is common but has been locally declining because of the clearing of large and dead trees. Expanding its range with cultivation of fruiting trees in other areas. Caught for trade.
