Identification
Adults can reach a length of 11 cm for a weight of 15 g. Small tail, short thick bill. Green head and wings, yellow belly. Male has bright blue nape and back. Female is duller with greenish-blue back and small blue area on lower nape.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, from Colombia to Bolivia, in north and south-central Venezuela, Guyana and eastern Brazil. Lives in humid submontane and montane forest, from 700 to 2500 meters.

Status : The species occurs patchily and remains globally rare to locally fairly common. Occurs in protected areas but remains vulnerable to deforestation.
