Identification
Silvery-black bill, black mask between eyes and bill. Subspecies violet-blue with dull golden-orange nape spot, buff vent and whitish belly. Wings black with dark blue edges to feathers.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in the eastern slopes of the Andes, in southeast Peru and Bolivia. Found in canopy of montane evergreen and secondary forests, also plantations.

Status : The species is quite poorly known and uncommon within its large range. Its dependence on forests makes it vulnerable to deforestation, especially at lower altitudes. Rarely caught for trade.
