Identification
Adults can grow to 31 cm in length for a weight of 229 g. Plumage almost entirely glossy black with violet to blue iridescence. Large orange-yellow bill. Bright yellow wattles on face. Subspecies with joined wattles under eyes and nape.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from north India to south China, south to Thailand. Species found from India to China, to Greater and Lesser Sundas and Palawan. Lives in forests patches and edges, disturbed and cultivated areas, to 2000 m.

Status : The species still has a large range but is getting rarer as it is caught in unsustainable numbers for the pet trade. Some subspecies are threatened.
