Identification
The species reaches 21 cm in length for a weight of 99 g. Horn-colored bill, light pink to yellow feet. Plumage is shiny dark bluish-black with yellow spot on wings. B right yellow crest, yellow chin and cheeks. Female has less yellow.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia, from north-east India and Myanmar to parts of Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and south to south Thailand. Lives in lowland forests (mostly primary) and mixed woodlands, to 800 m.

Status : The species is poorly known and globally uncommon, only locally common. Threatened in parts of its range by deforestation and trapping for trade.
