Identification
The species can grow to 15 cm for a weight of 30 g. Plumage mostly beige-brown. Wings darker brown with white and black row of dots. White collar and whitish belly. Rich brown cap. Black lores and chin, white cheeks with black patch.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from southeast Russia and Japan to south China, Philippines and Taiwan. Species found in most of Eurasia except south India. Lives in cultivated areas with trees, light woodlands, city centers in Asia, to 4400 m.

Status : This species is widespread and locally abundant. It is adaptable but has declined in Europe in recent times. Still common in Asia.
