Identification
Adults can grow to 19 cm for a weight of 80.4 g. Upright roundish body with large head, grey legs. This subspecies has head entirely black, bright green plumage with light blue-white wing patch and large red area from vent to belly.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in south Thailand, north Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Java. Species founds from north India and Nepal to Indonesia and Philippines. Lives in forests, especially riverine forests, old gardens and plantations, to 1000 m.

Status : The species is widespread and locally common. Some populations (Java, India …) are declining because of habitat loss.
