Identification
The species grows to 28 cm in length for a weight of 100 g. Golden yellow plumage, black area around eyes and nape band, black flight-feathers and tail with yellow tips. Subspecies with bright pink bill, wing coverts black with yellow tip, broad eye-band.

Range and habitat
Species found from India to north China, south to Indonesia. Subspecies occurs in south Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Bali. Lives in open forests, woodlands, plantations, urban gardens, to 1600 m.

Status : The species is widespread and common. It is very adaptable and sometimes treated as pests. Indonesian subspecies vulnerable to overtrapping.
