Identification
Total length of 20 cm for a weight of 80 g. Male is very similar to O. oriolus. Bright yellow coloration with think black mask around eyes. Wings with much more yellow. Female is a duller and clearer version of the male.

Range and habitat
North population occurs from Senegal and Gambia to western Ethiopia and southern Somalia. South population from Angola to Mozambique. Mostly found in broadleaf savanna woodlands, up to 2300 meters.

Status : The species remains common in most parts of its range but destruction of breeding habitat has led to local declines.
