Identification
Small black bill, long graduated black and white tail, white rump, rufous-orange underparts. Female duller and greyer. Subspecies with shorter tail, white crown, white undertail.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in northern Borneo and nearby Banggi Island. Found in forest clearings, undergrowth, bamboo forests, overgrown plantations, to 1750 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN (as C. malabaricus)
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread but Indonesian subspecies are facing high risk of extinction because of unsustainable capture for the trade. Captive breeding programs are being set up.
