Identification
The species can reach 20 cm in length for a weight of 76 grams. Yellow eyes, short yellow bill. Female is ashy-grey with black and white stripes on wings. Male has white wings, rest of plumage is purple-violet to bright pink.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south America in extreme south Colombia and from Venezuela and the Guianas to central Brazil and north-east Bolivia. Lives in humid forests, mostly in the canopy, up to 1300 meters.

Status : The species has a fairly large range and remains locally quite common. Commonest species of its genus in the wild. Vulnerable to deforestation.
