Identification
Adults grow to 11 cm in length for a weight of 19 g. Female green with yellowish throat and belly. Male has green flanks and back, black wings, upper back, tail and top of head. Rest of plumage bright yellow with elongated throat feathers.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central and South America, from eastern and southern Panama to adjacent north-eastern Colombia. Subspecies found in Panama and extreme north Colombia. Lives in forest edges and secondary woodlands and clearings up to 1200 m.
