Identification
Black head and breast with silvery white crest and nape. Plumage purplish-blue, whitish belly, red bill. Subspecies larger, with distinctively larger bill, mauve tones in blue upperparts.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from northeast India to Myanmar, then to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Found in broadleaf forests, hill forests, mangroves, gardens and plantations to 2200 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and occurs in many habitats. Although it is capture for the trade, it seems to remain numerous so far. No captive breeding programs in place at this time.
