Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 27 cm for a weight of 92 g. Unmistakable, bright blue frontal crest, black face with blue cheeks and yellow eyes, yellow belly, green wings. This subspecies has a light blue forehead and nape.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in extreme south Texas and north-east Mexico. Species found in most of Central America. Lives in forests, woodlands and grasslands with scattered trees, up to 2000 m.

Status : The species remains globally common within its range with only local declines documented. Still potentially vulnerable to habitat loss.
